The Work
A laboratory facility in on the North Shore that leases laboratory space to a variety of different types of users needed fiber cabling installed in 17 laboratories. Each lab required 18 to 24 strands installed, and they needed them to be completely secure. KTS was contacted by the general contractor for the building to design and install the fiber optic cabling, meeting precise specifications. The building houses a variety of secure labs including those with proprietary and classified work. Given the requirements, KTS designed and installed the fiber optic cable using sound absorbing caulking to seal any holes made to install the cable. The fiber optic cables are in sealed conduits that run to the server room.Challenges
Data security was paramount in the design and installation of the fiber optic cabling given the lab environment was for multiple tenants, each working in a clean and secure environment. A multi-cell flexible duct solution ensured the security of the cables while enabling future expansion if necessary. Another design challenge was ensuring the cabling for all 17 labs terminated in a location near the server room to be patched easily to any one of the 12 cabinets within the room.Benefits/Impact
KTS installed secure CAT 6A cabling in 17 labs. Each lab required 18 to 24 strands to be installed. Each individual lab has fully secure cabling for their communications backbone, enabling each individual tenant to have confidence that their proprietary and confidential information is protected and secure.Case Studies
