Gastro Health in Framingham Upgrades Wiring to Support Equipment Upgrade

Gastro Health in Framingham, MA was upgrading their equipment and wanted to replace all their wiring. KTS had previously done work in their Acton, MA facility, so the IT department for this multi-office practice reached out to KTS to do the work.

The Work

The work involved replacing existing cables with upgraded wiring, and relocating the two wiring closets. The old closets were filled to capacity and, as a result, were quite disorganized.
Working at night, the KTS team replaced over 100 cables over all three floors of the facility. They moved the wiring closets to different locations within the building, installed secure locking cabinets, installed the wiring, and created detailed, as-built drawings of each closet. They also inventoried everything that was installed in order to make future work or additions to the data closet more straightforward.

Challenges

In order to minimize the disruption to the patients and staff at Gastro Health, the customer requested that the work be done after hours. KTS’ skilled team worked from 6pm to 4am doing the work and cleaning up at the end of each shift, so it was as if no one had been there.

There was concern about whether KTS could use the space beneath the floor in one of the new wiring closets as a conduit. They needed to bring in a company to x-ray the floor to determine what was beneath. The end result was they could not use the space. KTS then strategized and came up with an alternative pathway to connect the data closet.

Benefits/Impact

Gastro Health’s Framingham office now has upgraded wiring and switches providing improved connections and supporting the bandwidth demands of new office equipment. Additionally, the wiring closets are in better locations in the building, more secure and organized for future use. The staff is happy with their improved connectivity and productivity. Because the KTS team worked at night and left the office in such good shape when they left each morning, the staff was not inconvenienced at all while the work was in progress.
