Lahey Health – Communications Infrastructure

Technology: Communications Infrastructure — Lahey Health and its many locations including incorporating new acquisitions, installing new networks and redundant networks (both copper and fiber).

Challenges: Planning and sequencing multiple streams of work within tight time constraints; coordinating work across multiple location with site managers, IT and general contractors to ensure quality work delivered on-time.

KTS Inc. has worked with Lahey Health for many years working with IT, architects and general contractors in design, installation and service roles. At any given time, many projects are being managed, sequenced and coordinated across multiple Lahey Health locations by the KTS Account Manager.

Examples of projects and initiatives with Lahey Health:

Design

Communications infrastructure design for redundancy loop of fiber across Lahey campus (inside plant and outside plant) with conduit system designed to accommodate access to future buildings.
Provide design input on various build-out projects to address whether mechanical closet requirements are sufficient.

Install

General Internal Medicine (GIM) is moving to a new building. With 35,000 square feet and approximately 120 exam rooms, KTS installed the data networks, copper and fiber; coordinating all efforts with site managers, IT and the general contractor, Bond Brothers.
Prior to the GIM move, the Dermatology Department moved to a newly renovated space. KTS managed all aspects of installing the communications infrastructure for this move.
After the completion of the General Internal Medicine and Dermatology Department moves, KTS completed installation of redundant loop fiber backbone at the Burlington campus between the data center and main hospital (both inside plant and outside plant). This installation required excavation of approximately 2700′ of asphalt and soil to install a new conduit bank and temporarily established an alternative site for the hospital’s helipad with KTS coordinating directly with Burlington First Responders and Boston MedFlight.
EPIC is Lahey Health’s electronic records project. KTS installs all data cables to support new computers for this strategic initiative.
Related to acquisitions, KTS ensures all acquired clinics and hospitals are connected to the Lahey network, working within time constraints to complete all sites to be integrated efficiently. Recent acquisition of Winchester Hospital required WIFI upgrades completed by KTS. Network testing was completed across all Winchester clinics and facilities to repair or upgrade cable and wiring for all sites to be added to the Lahey network.
