Funds Available in Massachusetts for School Safety Improvements
When schools are safe, teachers and students are better able to focus on teaching and learning. Schools Committees and Administrators are putting security high on their priority list. As Administrators evaluate their campuses, they are prioritizing and addressing security measures such as:
- Replacing door hardware and locks.
- Replacing cameras
- Adding additional cameras to improve visibility and cover larger areas of the campus
- Installing card/fob readers at all designated access points
- Installing BDAs (bidirectional amplifiers) to improve cellular reception
- Installing mass notification systems
Massachusetts has earmarked $40 million for school safety improvements for public schools. Part of this funding is available as matching grants for security and communications upgrades in K-12 public schools as well as public higher education institutions. These grants are a key means for many school districts to address safety improvements.
