Installations to Solve Poor Cellular Reception
Is bad cell coverage a problem at the office or at work?
There are 3 technologies that KTS considers when helping our clients solve poor cell reception:
- Cellular BDAs – bi-directional amplifiers (read more about cellular BDAs)
- DAS – distributed antenna system
- A Hybrid DAS – distributed antenna system
So which cellular reception solution is best for you?
It depends.
Cellular BDAs
Cellular Bi-directional amplifiers are an excellent solution for many clients who have poor cell reception. A cellular BDA enables a signal to be captured, amplified and redirected to deliver reliable cell coverage. Many KTS clients have seen tremendous improvements in Before and After readings. See the Before and After for this private school.
Cellular BDAs are a great solution for buildings with energy efficient architectural glass as this glass blocks cellular signals.
Cellular bi-directional amplifiers (BDAs) are a reliable, relatively low-cost solution. A cellular BDA can be easily integrated into an existing building, can be installed in an existing wiring closet and eliminates some of the hurdles and costs commonly associated with a DAS. See a comparison of Cellular BDA to DAS here.
DAS or Distributed Antenna System
A DAS or distributed antenna system is carrier specific and is hard wired. We will assess your needs to evaluate if installation of a DAS will best meet your needs. In some situations, we have solved poor cellular reception with solutions other than DAS saving our clients a lot of money.
Hybrid DAS Solution
This solution offers a great alternative to a full-blown DAS and offers a cost-effective, flexible solution for the commercial market where cellular BDAs are not a good solution.
The hybrid DAS does not rely on the cell signal so there is no amplification of the signal. Like a BDA, the in-building hybrid DAS solution also is a multi-carrier solution, but it uses single mode fiber as its backbone. It is ideal for larger square footage as each antenna covers approximately 5,000 square feet. If your organization is already using single mode fiber and you need a solution to cover a large area, a hybrid DAS may be an ideal cost-effective solution for poor cellular reception.
This system has been designed for operating efficiency and space utilization as it offers 80% space savings, includes built in power supply and its physical design promotes ease of installation. Its modular design enables expansion with the addition of minimal hardware, and it supports all public safety frequencies between 150MHz and 2,700MHz.
If cellular reception is poor at the office, call KTS to connect the disconnect. We will assess your signal, discuss your budget and expansion plans to design and install the best cellular reception solution for you.
